Did you know the most successful people in the world wake up before every one & most find around 45 min to an hour to read? Sounds awful I know. That is until I started doing the same. In a world filled with screens & constant information overload, reading is a way to center yourself. We scroll through social media and find EXTREMES. Extremes of the funniest, wealthiest, prettiest, most talented people on the planet. We intake this information daily and wonder why kids are getting anxiety and committing suicide at such alarmingly young ages.
Growing up I use to think people with anxiety were just DRAMATIC. That was until I got out of college and started freaking out that I didn’t have my big girl job yet. I saw all my friends getting their jobs in the city with great opportunities and now sometimes my anxiety will get the best of me on certain days. I’ve learned to quite my anxiety by changing my morning routine.
For starters I try not to get on my phone in the morning. I practice the ‘5 second rule’ which is something I learned from one of my self help books. I count down from 5, once I reach one I force myself to get up. Next I drink two glasses of water and pour my cup of coffee. Then it’s time to head to my swinging bed & read for about 30 minutes. You can do this before bed or once you wake up. Then I counting down from 5 again and it’s time for a workout.
I encourage you to try this out just for a week and see if you notice a change. I use to think the word average was like LOSER talk. After educating myself i’ve learned that average can be good. An average phone call with your mom. An average morning reading. An average walk around the park with your dog. We are humans and it’s okay to enjoy average things.
After all if we can’t enjoy the average things/people in life how can we be expected to learn gratitude for when we’re given those beautiful extremes…
Here’s my list of books that made me be better & live better!
