The Mar Bar gets all their seafood from Ulises Perdomo & Casamar Seafood Market. All the shrimp, fish & stone crab offered at their raw bar is caught by local fishermen, who take daily trips into the Gulf of Mexico & the Atlantic ocean. The marketplace purchases this seafood directly off the boats at their docks from folks they’ve known for years.
If you stop in during sunset you may even see the fisherman loading fresh lobster, stone crab claws & fish off to the market. This has been a tradition that Casa Mar is very proud of & hopes to keep the history of Tavernier Key alive. The owners of this land also made a promise to the government to keep this a local seafood market & allow for fresh fish to be distributed to our restaurants & locals.
Once you’ve taken a seat at Mar bar, look up! You’ll find lights hanging from red metal bars. These bars used to hold a much bigger responsibility than just string lights but instead, this would be where you’d hang massive amounts of fish from a lucky day on the water.
Mar bar is especially unique because it’s been run by female owners for the past 5 years now. The three main waitresses are either real estate, finance, or small business owners & use the bar as their second job, which allows them to afford to live on the island & meet tons of new & awesome people. Ask them for more cool places to visit while you’re down & they’d be happy to help!
This is truly the locals’ escape & happy place after a long day of work. The mar bar continues to have the laid-back vibe of the keys while also offering fresh & affordable seafood. Tuesday night bring your smartest crew & try out Trivia night. Wednesday nights are for the ~Ladies~ who’ll enjoy $4.00 glasses of wine & $1.00 oysters. Last but not least, Friday nights are for serenading the crowd with Karaoke!
